The Guildhall School of Music & Drama

Guildhall School of Music & DramaThe Guildhall School of Music & Drama is one of Europe's leading conservatoires, offering musicians, actors, stage managers and theatre technicians an inspiring environment in which to develop as artists and professionals.

The School first opened its doors on 27 September 1880 to 62 part-time students in a disused warehouse in the City of London.

Today it is situated in the heart of one of Britain's most important arts venues at the Barbican and has over 800 full-time music and drama students, with a growing international reputation for its teaching and research. More than a third of the School's students are currently from outside the UK and represent over 40 nationalities.

Wells Cathedral School

Wells Cathedral SchoolThe Specialist Music Scheme at Wells Cathedral School offers an intensive training to young people who have discovered that their lives revolve around music making.

It is a pre-professional course for highly gifted students who wish to consider a career in music. Most Specialists leave Wells to study at the main conservatoires in the UK or abroad, often gaining scholarships at the institution of their choice.

Howarth of London

Howart of LondonThe Howarth name is first linked with wind instrument making in 1874, when George Howarth was apprenticed to the flute maker Alexander Liddle in London. George was the father of T W (Tom) Howarth, who gave his name to the current firm T W Howarth & Co Ltd, established in 1948.

Howarth of London are now internationally known as makers of the finest oboes, oboes d'amore, English horns and clarinets. Alongside their role as makers, they are one of the world's leading suppliers of oboes, bassoons, clarinets and saxophones. In recent years they have led the way in developing instruments to help young beginners start playing oboe and bassoon well. The Howarth Mini-Bassoon was launched in 1999, and the new Junior oboe in 2008, and are in great demand.

The London showrooms are a bustling meeting point for players, and offer a comprehensive range of accessories, and woodwind sheet music. The staff are all players, and will be happy to help you however long you have been playing - or even if you haven't started yet!
